Trend Radar for AI & Data Analytics

Identify and implement future technologies early on

The dynamic development in the field of artificial intelligence is a challenge for companies worldwide. The Lufthansa Industry Solutions (LHIND) AI & Data Analytics Trend Radar provides decision-makers with orientation and helps them to identify and implement forward-looking technologies at an early stage. Currently, the LHIND Trend Radar focuses on ready-to-use key technologies such as LLMOps and Agentic AI, while the area of Responsible AI plays a special role due to legislative developments.

Norderstedt, November 27, 2024 - The LHIND Trend Radar provides companies with a decision-making basis for strategic navigation in an increasingly technology-driven market environment and for securing competitive advantages at an early stage. With a targeted focus on the application of innovations and an independent view of current developments, the Trend Radar distinguishes between technology hypes and substantial solutions. It is aimed at managers who need to be able to integrate technological progress into their business decisions in a targeted and strategic manner.

The Trend Radar is based on comprehensive, customer-oriented analysis by LHIND experts and also uses reports from recognized market analysts as well as direct insights from customer discussions. Identified trends are evaluated based on criteria such as industry relevance, potential impact, market acceptance, technological maturity and global demand. "With our trend radar, we help companies proactively manage technological developments and strengthen their market position in the long term," says Yannick Wenger, IT consultant at LHIND.

From long list to priority

The trends were selected and analyzed in several steps. First, a "long list" of promising topics is created based on sources such as Gartner and insights from conferences and customer meetings. This list is then reviewed and prioritized every four months by a team of business and industry experts using a standardized scoring system. In addition, the recommendations for action are divided into three categories: "Act," "Prepare," and "Watch.

Top trends: action areas and recommendations

Responsible, powerful and integrated AI applications are among the top trends that companies should address now. In the "Act" category, the LHIND Trend Radar lists ready-to-use key technologies such as Large Language Model Operations (LLMOps), which optimize the operation, training, management and deployment of large language models (LLMs), and Agentic AI, artificial intelligence systems that act as autonomous "agents" and are able to perform tasks independently and purposefully. These solutions are ready to deploy and can directly help businesses in areas such as efficiency and compliance.

In addition, developments in quantum computing (QC) show great potential for future applications, particularly in the aviation and financial industries. "The potential of QC to optimize complex processes is the main focus of our team," explains Joseph Doetsch, Head of Quantum Computing at LHIND. It is not yet possible to predict when and how this potential will be realized. "But that's why we're researching it and participating in several projects, so we can offer our customers solutions as soon as the technology is widely available."

Responsible AI: Responsibility as a success factor

The LHIND experts see a particular need for action when it comes to Responsible AI. The European Union has passed the EU AI Act to protect against the potential negative effects of artificial intelligence. Companies are now obliged to respect ethical principles and social values when developing and using AI systems. However, the EU AI Act is no reason to hesitate when using AI systems, says Michael Koch, Director Artificial Intelligence at LHIND: "The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which came into force six years ago, has already laid the foundation."
