IT and Data Management Whitepaper

Survey: Four out of ten employees complain about IT disruptions every week

Server failures, software crashes, lost e-mails - in 40 percent of German companies, not a week goes by without an IT disruption. This is the alarming result of a recent survey of more than 1,100 employees in Germany conducted on behalf of Lufthansa Industry Solutions (LHIND). Because inadequate IT not only causes stress and frustration among employees, but also jeopardizes a company's competitiveness, the experts at LHIND explain in a new whitepaper how companies can make their IT and data management efficient, secure and sustainable.

Norderstedt, January 23, 2025 – As the LHIND survey shows, more than half of the companies (57%) are experiencing an increase in the number of disruptions. Although the majority of these are resolved within three hours, some take longer. Most troublingly, 35% of problem resolutions are only temporary. There is a high risk of errors creeping into the data permanently

"The demands on IT today are enormous. In addition to the daily firefighting - keyword disruptions - IT managers are expected to be the driver of digital transformation for the entire company," says Dr. Lars Schwabe, CTO of Lufthansa Industry Solutions. "Many IT managers are also caught between reducing technical debt and developing innovative solutions."

"Organizations need to centralize their data processes to obtain reliable and well-structured information for data-driven decisions."

Adapting IT to today's challenges is causing stress in the workforce, with 56% of respondents citing technological developments as a major challenge in their day-to-day work. “Disruptions and operational errors can, in the worst case, lead to data loss. This clearly shows the importance of efficient and strategic IT and data management”, says LHIND CTO Schwabe. "It can not only reduce downtime, but also create the basis for sustainable digitalization. Reliable and well-structured data is the foundation for data-driven decisions. Companies should therefore manage all data processes centrally so that managers in particular have all relevant information at their fingertips at all times.

The Four Pillars of Successful IT and Data Management

For all companies that want to optimize their data processes in this situation, LHIND has published the latest whitepaper "IT and Data Management - efficient, secure and sustainable". It emphasizes that successful IT management is based on four pillars: strategy, architecture, sustainability and security.

  1. Strategy: Digital transformation challenges organizations and requires cultural change. Integrating IT and digital strategies is the key to success.
  2. Architecture: Organizations need a clear vision and a structured approach to develop an optimal architecture, especially for data platforms.
  3. Sustainability: Companies need to reduce emissions through energy-efficient processes. There is a trade-off here: sustainable IT also consumes resources and generates CO2.
  4. Security: IT security is part of a complex regulatory environment. Companies must choose standards such as ISO 27001 or IT baseline protection and manage risks effectively.

“A key aspect of this is the introduction of systematic data management”, emphasizes Lars Schwabe. "Organizations need to centralize their data processes to obtain reliable and well-structured information for data-driven decisions. The goal is to make processes efficient, sustainable, and secure to achieve both operational and strategic benefits. IT expert Schwabe continues: "We recommend an integrated approach that combines technological advances, cultural change and sustainability as the key to successful digital transformation."
