Together with various partners from science and industry, Lufthansa Industry Solutions (LHIND) is participating in a research project for efficient visitor management in Schleswig-Holstein. The state is funding the project with EU funds amounting to around 1.2 million euros.
LHIND participates in research project in the tourism sector
Norderstedt, February 28, 2022 – The number of visitors to Schleswig-Holstein has grown steadily in recent years. Not least the Corona pandemic has brought many tourists to the northernmost German state. The state government is therefore now embarking on a search for intelligent visitor management that will enable sustainable tourism.
In the course of this, the project "Statewide Digital Visitor Management Tourism in Schleswig-Holstein", LAB-TOUR SH for short, was launched. In addition to LHIND, the German Institute for Tourism Research at the West Coast University of Applied Sciences and the ITC company ADDIX Internet Services GmbH are also involved in the research project. The Kiel University of Applied Sciences is coordinating the overall project.
LHIND is contributing its know-how and experience in sensor technology, data integration and analysis, and cloud-based visitor guidance platforms to the project. LHIND had already implemented such a project in the seaside resort of St. Peter Ording in 2020. In addition, LHIND will lead the development of the AI-based recommendation system. This is intended to protect tourist destinations in Schleswig-Holstein from local congestion.
"To this end, the system will combine the utilization of potential hot spots recorded in real time with historical utilization and other data and, based on these calculations, suggest sensible tourist alternatives to guests," says Moritz Röder, Associate Director Venue Digitalization at LHIND. The goal is to distribute visitor flows well as early as possible.
The project, which is scheduled to run for one and a half years, is being supported by the state's Ministry of Economics with funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) amounting to around 1.2 million euros.
