Ensure prompt implementation of EU requirements

Digital product passports: software solution for transparency and sustainability

In the future, consumers in Europe should be able to determine a product’s sustainability in next to no time. With this in mind, the EU has decided to introduce a digital product passport, which will contain information about a product’s materials, origins, carbon footprint, disposal and other sustainability-related aspects – along the entire supply chain, through to the end customer. The digital product passport will soon become mandatory for many retail segments, so the clock is ticking. With our user-friendly software solution, you can fulfill statutory requirements and offer your customers genuine added value.

The digital product passport (DPP) is set to become mandatory for certain segments from 2027. The fashion industry will be one of the first retail segments to become subject to this requirement, followed by furniture, children’s toys and consumer electronics.

By opting for our Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, you can create and manage fully compliant digital product passports with ease. Our cloud platform gathers product and manufacturing data from all suppliers and integrates them into a verified product passport. Data can be transmitted to the platform automatically via a tailored application programming interface (API).

Our software solution offers two views:

  • The producer view is an intuitive user interface for you and your suppliers. It facilitates straightforward recording of all relevant data and provides an overview of all product passports.
  • The consumer view is what your customers see, i.e. when they scan the QR code on a product. It displays information from the digital product passport in a clear and visually appealing manner.

Benefits of our software for digital product passports

Our solution enables you to meet statutory requirements related to the digital product passport efficiently and document compliance with environmental and social standards in a transparent manner. Once processed into a clear and transparent format, the passport data allows you to credibly demonstrate compliance with sustainable practices and meet the expectations of your customers, investors and regulatory authorities.

By providing an SaaS solution, we ensure that you can always rely on legally compliant, technically state-of-the-art software.

Thanks to our standard cloud platform, we offer a turnkey solution that is immediately ready for use. You can connect your systems via an API in next to no time – and we’d be happy to assist with this, if necessary.

Relevant data from throughout the entire value chain can be transferred either automatically via API or manually. The user interface is intuitive, ensuring that new users can quickly find their bearings.

Once a product passport has been generated, certain datasets require protection against further modification. We store product passports in a blockchain transaction to ensure the credibility of the DPP and prevent subsequent manipulation.

The digital product passport in the consumer view consists not only of text and tables but also uses images and diagrams to visualize data. This way, your customers can quickly grasp all relevant information.

In times when sustainability is increasingly becoming a decisive factor in purchasing decisions, the transparency provided by digital product passports is an opportunity to elevate your brand above the competition – and secure a valuable competitive edge. As a first mover, not only will you position your company as an industry pioneer, you’ll also consolidate your image as an innovative and responsible enterprise.

About the digital product passport

The European Green Deal is a set of policy initiatives through which the European Union aims to improve sustainability. This includes promoting the establishment of a circular economy in which products are repaired, recycled or reused at the end of their life cycle instead of being thrown away. The digital product passport is an important element of this strategy.

Digital product passports offer comprehensive, product-specific information, thereby making a product’s entire life cycle transparent and comprehensible. A digital product passport should contain the following information:

  • Material composition and country of origin
  • Manufacturer and production sites
  • Product carbon footprint
  • Sustainability standards and evidence
  • Instructions and information on repairs, recycling and disposal

The scope of the digital product passport will be gradually expanded to include different segments. The first products, for which current plans will require DPPs from 2027, include batteries, clothing, iron and steel. Furniture, chemicals, tires, packaging, toys and many other products will follow in subsequent years. The EU will issue what is known as a “delegated act” for each, with companies then given 18 months to implement the new regulations.
