Course of growth: The Lufthansa subsidiary is set to create 350 new jobs this year / High demand: Artificial intelligence is gaining momentum in companies
Norderstedt, May 29, 2019 – The Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, Daniel Günther, visited the IT service provider Lufthansa Industry Solutions in Norderstedt today. During discussions with Managing Director Bernd Appel, he learned about the company’s fields of activities and current developments in digitalization in the economy. “Lufthansa Industry Solutions stands for a holistic view of comprehensive and complex digital projects in companies,” said Günther. Lufthansa Industry Solutions has more than 1,700 employees, with more than 600 based at the company’s site in Norderstedt.
Digitalization is in full swing and affects all aspects of society and the economy. Companies in Germany are having to deal with new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), as these have the potential to enable new business models, optimize and automate processes, and save on high costs.
“The topic of artificial intelligence in particular is picking up speed in companies,” says Bernd Appel. But as many companies have a shortage of specialized staff, there is an enormous need for external support. IT service providers have become a key factor for successful digital transformation. “Gaining skilled workers is an important topic for us. The state government is doing all it can to intensify professional orientation and make it more applicable for use in the real world,” stated the Prime Minister.
To keep up with the rising demand for IT services, Lufthansa Industry Solutions is pursuing a consistent growth strategy. The number of employees at the company has been steadily growing for years. Around 400 new jobs have been created in the last three years, for example, and the company is planning to recruit 350 more employees across Germany in 2019 alone.
The IT service provider also places a great deal of importance on training junior staff. “Starting this fall we will have more than 70 students from dual study programs in our ranks,” Appel explains. The Managing Director continues: “Our goal, however, is to attract even more talent for our company in the future.” The odds are looking good: A recently published study from market research company Trendence of more than 6,500 students from IT programs showed that Lufthansa Industry Solutions has become one of the top 50 companies for IT graduates.
Lufthansa Industry Solutions is a service provider for IT consulting and system integration. This Lufthansa subsidiary helps its clients with the digital transformation of their companies. Its customer base includes companies both within and outside the Lufthansa Group, as well as more than 200 companies in various lines of business. The company is based in Norderstedt and employs more than 1,700 members of staff at several branch offices in Germany, Switzerland and the USA.
